About this Workshop: 

Card weaving is a simple, warp facing weave that can be done anywhere. This process involves a warp that is manipulated through a set of cards with holes in them, creating a woven band. This method is perfect for weaving strong, narrow, decorative bands.


We will be covering the following techniques:

  • How to set up cards for band weaving
  • How to weave a variety of warp faced patterns
  • How to select materials for card weaving

Workshop Materials & Equipment: 

All materials are included and you'll take home a set of Schacht Tablet/Card Weaving Cards. 

Experience:

No weaving experience is necessary. Beginners welcome!

About the Instructor:

Sanaa Humayun (she/her) is the child of Pakistani immigrants, currently living and residing between Mohkintsis, on Treaty 7 Territory, and amiskwaciwâskahikan on Treaty 6 Territory.

She is involved in Latitude 53 & the Mitchell Art Gallery’s project Writing From Here, and is, along with Kiona Ligtvoet, co-founder of Making Space- a peer mentorship group for emerging visual artists that decenters whiteness. She has exhibited most recently at Khyber Centre, Marion Nichols Gallery, Lowlands Gallery and Latitude 53. She is co-director of Coven Gallery, and co-organizer of Making Space. 

Sanaa’s art involves a tender exploration of her childhood and familial relationships, through textile and paint. She is passionate about fostering community through means of art, conversation, and an unapologetic love of gossip.

We are not able to refund workshops. We are able to provide a store credit for workshops canceled with 72 hrs notice. We are not able to provide store credit for cancellations with less than 72 hrs notice, even for participants who are feeling unwell. Thank you for your understanding.
