Handweaver's Source Book by Marguerite P. Davison
This is an ideal companion to the classic Handweaver's Pattern Book. Marguerite Porter Davison is one of the most influential figures in North American weaving thanks to her work documenting and publishing weaving patterns. Her books brought many weavers to the craft.
The Handweaver's Source Book is her final book, published shortly after her death in 1953. This book is a collection of overshot designs gathered from archival sources and beautifully illustrated by Charles Denzler.
Full directions are given for reading the drafts, which are written in a notation system used by many early weavers.
This book is both a treasure trove of drafts for overshot weavers and a fascinating window into Colonial-era coverlet weaving and pattern drafting.
