Instructor: Shannon Nelson
In this workshop we will take a closer look at how to use our 4 shaft looms to create intricate designs, such as curves and circles, in our weaving. Participants will be introduced to the weave structure of overshot's history. We will learn about overshot characteristics and its uses. Profile drafting, a technique that allows the weaver a broader view of the pattern, will be introduced as we develop our own designs. From there we will jump into modern applications, making at least three samples that you will take home with you.
Experience Necessary: In this course you will need to know how to beam, sley and thread your loom. You will also need to have some experience reading weaving drafts.
All Materials are included for this workshop
This will be a “round robin” style workshop. Warps will be provided for you to thread in advance. You can come pick up your warp at Gather any time from February 16 up until March 5.
If you need to use a Gather loom, we will help arrange this in advance. If you are planning to use a Gather loom, please ensure to make time prior to the workshop to come in and thread the loom with the warp provided.
Weft will be provided at the workshop, though you can choose to bring some of your own stash to try out.
