Join us for a fun and informative one-evening workshop on weft-faced rug weaving styles like raanu, krokgbragd and boundweave! In this session, we will talk through the nuts and bolts of planning, setting up, weaving and finishing weft-faced pieces.  We will discuss how designing is just different with weft-faced weaves, and run through beautiful options for creating rugs, mats, and more. 

We'll start by reviewing threading and treadling plans for major weft-faced designs. Then we’ll take a look at how weft-faced structures create columns of colour within the design, and discuss how to mix and match those columns to create different effects. Starting with plain weave techniques and working up through more complex twill-based styles like krokgbragd and boundweave, we will demystify the process of using multiple picks to complete a row of pattern. As always, we’ll share beautiful studio samples so that you can see how techniques translate into real pieces.

We’ll also talk about practical tips for opening up your warp so that you can pack in the weft, how to sett projects and how to choose yarns. We’ll close by reviewing finishing techniques specific to rug weaving, as well as wet finishing for weft-faced pieces.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have a deeper understanding of how to design and weave beautiful weft-faced pieces. 

This workshop is perfect for anyone who has basic weaving experience, whether you're a newer weaver or an experienced weaver looking to expand your skills. 

Our structure series is available in person or online. Online participants will receive a digital package before the workshop. They will be emailed a zoom link the morning of the workshop and have opportunities to ask questions and see our studio samples up close.
