Yarn designed for weaving.
From soft cotton and linen to luxurious silk and wool, our weaving yarns are designed to suit every type of project.
Cotton
Cotton is a soft, durable yarn perfect for all your weaving projects. Generally the softest of the plant fibres, as it is made from fluff that spreads cotton seeds rather than the stalks of a plant. Cotton has more stretch to it than linen or hemp. Cotton yarn is ideal for creating everything from lightweight garments to sturdy home textiles like towels and table linens. Available in a variety of colors and weights as well as in different styles (slub, boucle, etc), our cotton yarns provide excellent absorbency and strength, making them a top choice for weavers of all skills levels. Wool
Alpaca “blooms” rather than fulling or felting. This means it changes just enough with wet finishing to give the cloth stability while keeping its loft. Alpaca is incredibly, incredibly warm, with a beautiful sheen and softness. Shop wool yarn for weaving.
Cottolin
Cottolin is an excellent choice for weaving household items like towels, table runners, and placemats. With a soft texture from cotton and added durability from linen, these yarns are a dreamy combination! Shop cottolin yarn for weaving.
Linen
Linen is stronger and shinier than cotton. It is made from fibres taken from the stalks of linen plants. These structural fibres are very strong, and have a longer staple length than cotton fibres. Known for its crisp texture, strength, and natural luster, linen yarn is perfect for creating lightweight garments, and durable home textiles. Linen has a smooth finish that improves with each wash. Bamboo
Bamboo is known for its silky texture and breathable properties. Bamboo yarns are perfect for creating lightweight, soft, and durable woven projects like scarves and shawls. With a natural sheen and smooth finish, bamboo adds a light touch to your weaving. Shop bamboo yarn for weaving.
Hemp
Here at Gather we are particularly excited about the possibilities of hemp. Hemp is like linen, but even stronger. It has a beautiful shine. Hemp takes very little water to grow, is generally available in natural colour, and is sometimes blended with cotton. Softening with each wash, hemp yarn offers a rustic yet refined look.
