Gather Press

Textiles. Technique. Story.

About Gather Press

Gather Press is the publishing arm of Gather Textiles, created to preserve and reimagine significant works in handweaving. Our publications share the practical techniques, creative inspiration, and fascinating human stories that make up the world of textile arts.

As a small art press, we are dedicated to making high quality books that are a pleasure to hold and a pleasure to read. With our first book in print in 2025 and many more on the horizon, we aim to empower makers, artists, and educators in the world of weaving; to keep knowledge, technique, and craft communities alive; and to contribute to the tradition we love.

We are proud to share that our books are printed in Canada.

  • The Best Weaving Advice (Nobody Listens To)

    Coming Fall 2025

This book will not teach you how to weave. What it will do is help make your weaving more enjoyable, more productive, and so much easier. We’ve written down the key bits of weaving wisdom we’ve picked up over the years: mindset tweaks, best practices, keys to happy weaving.

  • A Handweavers Pattern Book: Celebrating Marguerite Porter Davison

    Coming 2026

We have been hard at work in the studio weaving new samples of the drafts collected and created by iconic handweaver Marguerite Porter Davison. Davison’s A Handweaver’s Pattern Book (also known simply as ‘the Green Book’) remains one of the most comprehensive and inspiring collections of weaving drafts in our shared tradition.

  • Art in Ubiquity: The Handwoven Tea Towel

New and Expanded Version Coming 2026

This project was originally printed along with an Edmonton Weavers' Guild exhibition at the Alberta Craft Council. Since then, Gather has expanded upon these ideas in many directions.

Why Weaving Books?

Weaving books are some of the most valuable resources in our craft community. While we love in-person and online learning, there’s something about a book that is unique. Books are what get handed down from one weaver to the next. They’re what get passed along with a used loom. They’re what we keep in arm’s reach in our craft rooms. Weaving books are what has kept our craft alive and what will carry it forward.

Books are also works of art in and of themselves! A well made book is a joy to own and a joy to use. We believe that weaving books should be as artfully made as the handwoven cloth they document.
