Description:
Join Jamie and Kim for a watch-a-long of Weaving Stories: a series of video interviews with local weavers that celebrates the joy, resourcefulness, resilience, and creativity of the weaving community. These stories explore how weaving connects weavers to each other, to our varied cultural heritages, and to the tradition of the craft.
The weavers we talked to represent the diverse and vibrant handweaving community in Edmonton. Some have woven for two years, others for sixty. Their weaving is grounded in community, from Ukrainian, Métis, and Filippina cultural traditions to the shared learning done in guilds and groups.
We hope that these interviews shine a light on the incredible work and passion of Edmonton’s weavers, and that they provide inspiration for current and future weavers to contribute their own unique voices to the ongoing story of weaving.
We’ll have text chat open throughout the screening to ask questions and share comments and reactions. Between each video, we’ll have time for a Q&A with Jamie and Kim about the weavers featured.
This is a free event, but registration is required so that we can send meeting information.
Many thanks to the Edmonton Heritage Council for supporting this project.
